Brown caps rally as Kings edge Bruins in OT

03/19/2009 - Boston, MA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Dustin Brown scored with 35 ticks remaining in overtime and the Los Angeles Kings rallied for three goals in the final 15 minutes, erasing a two-goal deficit for the 3-2 win over Boston at TD Banknorth Garden.

Michal Handzus got the comeback started with a power-play goal and Drew Doughty forced the extra frame, lighting the lamp with 1:36 left in regulation

Jonathan Quick made 24 saves and survived a pair of Boston power-play opportunities late in the third to pick up the victory for LA, which won on the road for the first time since beating Minnesota on February 24 and had dropped six straight as the guest.

The Kings kicked off a season-high six-game road trip, pivotal to them making the playoffs as they came into play Thursday in the 13th position. Doughty also had an assist while Wayne Simmonds had two helpers for LA, which had dropped three straight.

Mark Recchi and Matt Hunwick got the goals for Boston, which has just three wins in its last 10 games.

Tim Thomas blanked the Kings for nearly 50 minutes before wilting under LA's 38-shot barrage in the loss.

Aaron Ward was whistled for hooking eight minutes into the third and LA finally breached the scoreboard with a power-play marker as Handzus was able to bat a loose puck in front past a sprawled Thomas following the initial save of a Simmonds wrister.

The Kings in turn handed the B's a power play when Kyle Quincey took a tripping minor at 11:42 and again after Sean O'Donnell was called for hooking with 5:04 to go.

LA killed off both infractions and remained on its heels for much of the third, but Doughty led a rush the other way following a Quick save and ended up with the equalizer with 1:36 on the clock.

Doughty dished to Derek Armstrong on the left wing at the blueline and headed for the net. Armstrong put on the brakes and hit Simmonds in stride for a shot from the slot that went off the right post and Doughty was in position to slam home the rebound, forcing an extra session.

Brown cut across the slot late in OT and hit O'Donnell with a pass on the left wing. O'Donnell gave it right back to Brown in the low slot and he sent the puck past the outstretched glove of Thomas for the game-winner.

The aptly named Quick was just that, robbing Blake Wheeler on a breakaway chance late in the first to keep the game scoreless.

However, Quick couldn't get to a Hunwick one-timer in front off a Michael Ryder feed a short time later as Boston took the 1-0 lead with 5:19 left in the first.

The Bruins used a series of pin-point passes to take a 2-0 advantage at 3:48 of the middle stanza as Chuck Kobasew forechecked behind the net, flicked the disc back to Patrice Bergeron low in the left circle for a cross-ice pass to Recchi and the easy score.

Game Notes

The Bruins are 4-2 with a tie in the last seven meetings with Los Angeles...LA was 1-for-3 with the man advantage while Boston ended 0-for-4 on the power play...It was Brown's 24th goal of the season...The Bruins are 24-6-6 as the host this year and had won their last three on home ice...The Kings are 14-16-2 as the visiting team this season.

It's less than a month until the NHL hockey betting season opens at MySportsbook.com and preparations are underway for another battle in the race to hoist Lord Stanley's mug in 2007.

As cup crazy fans prepare to place their bets, one online sportsbook ,MySportsbook.com, is offering hockey betting lines on the 2007/2007 Stanley Cup , who will bring it home this upcoming season.

Despite a poor showing in last season's playoffs and the loss of Steve Yzerman to retirement, the Detroit Red Wings are early favourites at this online sportsbook with wagering odds of 6-1. The Wings will look to offensive powerhouse Pavel Datsyuk and newly appointed captain Nicklas Lidstrom to lead one of the league's most prominent franchises.

Always a threat are the Ottawa Senators, with newly acquired goaltender Martin Gerber from the Stanley Cup champion ,Carolina Hurricanes. The Sens are second best in the rankings at a 7-1 bet, and odds makers at this sportsbook are optimistic that the Ottawa squad will fare better than last season's Eastern Conference semi-final upset to the Buffalo Sabres.

Also worth noting are the defending Stanley Cup champs Carolina Hurricanes, a 10-1 bet to repeat. Behind the Canes are the New Jersey Devils, Calgary Flames, Buffalo Sabres, Philadelphia Flyers, and Anaheim Mighty Ducks all sit at 12-1. In the basement are the Washington Capitals, Chicago Blackhawks, and St. Louis Blues who all have 100-1 odds to win.

Big 12 Conference betting odds

Work left to do: Texas Tech, Oklahoma State, Kansas State

Texas joins Texas A&M and Kansas as locks after getting league win No. 11. Texas Tech greatly helped its own hopes and crippled OK State's with the two-point win Saturday. Is K-State the last reasonable hopeful? Could be an elimination match in Stillwater on Tuesday, at least for the Cowboys.

Work left to do:

Texas Tech [18-11 (7-7), RPI: 44, SOS: 12] A critical two-point win over OK State leaves the Red Raiders with Baylor and at Iowa State left. Get both and the Red Raiders likely are good to go. Get one and there could be some interesting comparisons with a K-State team that could finish two or three games "ahead" of them in the standings but doesn't have any of the quality wins Texas Tech has. Not a lot in nonconference play (against Arkansas in Little Rock being the best win, by far) to lean on.

Oklahoma State [18-9 (5-8), RPI: 50, SOS: 35] Still without a road win, the Cowboys now need to win two on the road just to get to .500 in conference play. It's hard to recall a team (OK, other than Clemson) falling so precipitously from lock status to almost certainly out of the NCAAs at this point. There are wins to be had in the last three, including a very big home game against K-State on Tuesday, but this team is reeling. Can you tell the pressure to win is getting to them with the way the final possession played out at Texas Tech? There are some good nonconference performances to lean on, specifically beating Missouri State and Syracuse on neutral floors and Pitt in OK City, but if the Pokes don't right this very, very soon, that won't be enough.

Kansas State [20-9 (9-5), RPI: 56, SOS: 96] It pays to be in the Big 12 North. The nine league wins are Colorado (twice), Missouri (twice), Iowa State (twice), Baylor, Nebraska and (a good one against) Texas. That helps explain the middling computer profile. The win over USC is nice, but the nonconference leaves a lot to be desired. The game at OK State in Stillwater on Tuesday is huge, as it could KO the Cowboys and leave K-State with a home date against Oklahoma with which to work.
